How Does a Woman in her 60s Get Lean, Strong, and Burn Fat?

How does an asthmatic, post-menopausal woman get lean, strong, burn fat, and come in second in her division of her first 5K?

This is Janis's story and she's sticking to it...

"What I once believed was impossible for me, a woman over 60 years of age with physical limitations, I know now is possible. The sky is the limit!" ~Janis Dey
I am a woman just over 60 years of age, who maintains health through [cardio] and yoga. However, I had hit a plateau and wanted "more." One of my goals was to reduce my body fat, while strengthening my core. I have several physical challenges (asthma, osteoporosis)  so I am very careful about who I trust as an instructor. I was also skeptical about what my postmenopausal body could accomplish; kettlebell training is the lifting and swinging of weights!

Brian Friedman of Winter Garden Yoga is the best instructor! His knowledge of anatomy, patience, attention to detail sets him apart from all other instructors. He tailors the sessions according to one's body and to one's goals.

I signed up for Brian's eight week kettlebell course. I felt the effects after one half-hour session. Three weeks into the program, I noticed improvement in my yoga and [cardio]practice. Four weeks into the program, people were asking me how much weight I lost and what was I doing to get so fit. After completing the eight-week program, the results were even more amazing!

Eight Week Results:

  • Improved back flexion
    • My spinal flexibility greatly improved my yoga practice and my [cardio]practice.
  • Stronger arms and shoulders
    • Kettlebell training has strengthened my arms and taught me to pack my shoulders properly for maximum protection and hold. Every yoga pose involving holding my weight in my arms and shoulders is significantly tighter and easier now.
  • Stronger abs
    • Before Kettlebell, I was straight up and down, now I have a waist. My core is stronger. My balance has also improved in yoga and [cardio].
  • Stronger thighs and knees
    • I have a surgically repaired knee from 40 years ago. After noticing minor swelling in my knee, my daughter, a Certified Athletic Trainer, checked both knees and exclaimed that my surgically repaired knee was just as strong and as the "good" knee and better than ever! My ability to squat and hold yoga poses has increased greatly. [Cardio]improved too. I am ready to walk/run my first 5K in two weeks!
    • Addendum: Janis finished second in her division!

More Eight Week Results:

  • Hips (1 inch loss)
  • Abdomen (2 inch loss) I did not believe this was possible. No more excuses!
  • Under bust (2 inch gain) Stronger back muscles. Lats found!
  • Waist (1.5 inch loss in 2 weeks) I did not measure my waist the first 6 weeks because I did not have one.
  • Bust (1.25 inch loss) Loss of back fat. Cup size is the same.
  • Right thigh (1 inch gain)
  • Left thigh (1 inch gain)
  • Right upper arm (.5 inch gain)
  • Left upper arm (.5 inch gain)
  • Weight (6 pound loss)

I highly recommend the eight weeks of Kettlebell sessions at Winter Garden Yoga with Brian Friedman! Three weeks of Kettlebell promised good results, but my eight-week results were amazing. I met every goal and my expectations were exceeded. In fact, something interesting happened. Every area of my life benefited from Kettlebell.

Kettlebell with Brian Friedman gets results! I am a believer.

"Kettlebell with a highly skilled trainer, like Brian Friedman, is for anyone of any age and ability. I, Janis Dey, am living proof!"
